Hi 23 Things team
I was chatting to a colleague about how behind I am on 23 Things due to Other Commitments plus this being the busiest part of the academic year. She told me that she's spoken to some staff who are now beginning to feel a bit stressed about how behind they are with their Things. Also, that because of it being so busy they're not able to make the 23 Things clinics.
Personally, I don't feel stressed because I'm doing this for my own interest, and my priority is to take this opportunity to look at Web 2.0 tools in some depth rather than worry about a deadline or a certificate. I'm also really enjoying trying to put together a good blog. However, I do feel kind of out of synch with others on the 23 Things journey in the sense that I've just blogged my Picnik pictures while others have long since moved onto podcasts (known amongst we snails as 'downcasts')!
I'm wondering if there are sufficient others who feel that trying to reach the deadline will detract from the fun/depth of this learning exercise, and would like to form a subgroup so that we can still have a group that we are current with? Perhaps it could run at half-pace with a new final deadline?
I don't in any way want to undermine 23 things, because I'm loving it, but maybe more people would feel able to participate if there was an option to go at half-speed? And it would certainly prevent more drop-outs. What do you think?
Dear Kath,
Thanks for letting us know about this.
It’s fine for people to work through 23 Things at their own pace: the 23 Things blog and its contents will remain available after 9th April. However, participants must register their completion by this date in order to be eligible for completion certificates and prizes. I hope you can see that it is also important for the 23 Things team members to be able to have a finish date for this project as our involvement is a significant commitment in terms of time, and involves a lot of work behind the scenes which may not be apparent to participants.
As this is the first time we have run this programme, we will be reflecting on things that could have been done differently, and this feedback will be considered as part of that.
Hi Laura
Yes, I can quite understand where you're coming from on this. I thought you'd want to be aware of the situation anyway.
Kath
